Hi there,

My name is Birgit O'Sheedy, but most people call me Birdy. I've founded Pause In Life Psychology with the aim to provide a unique service where people can receive individualised, effective, client-centered care and support, without feeling judged.

When we have a toothache, we go and see the dentist. If we have an injury, we see the doctor. So why not get professional help with emotional pain and discomfort? Pause In Life would like to help you ignite change and improve your health, well-being and overall satisfaction with life.

I'm an accredited Clinical Psychologist with AHPRA and APS, have international experience in successfully treating hundreds of clients with ongoing life challenges. Many people wonder what the difference between a clinical psychologist and a general psychologist is. Both have the same foundation of learning, however the clinical psychologist has undergone extra post-graduate training focusing on treatment and diagnostics, and is thus more specialised.

I work from a strength-based solutions-focused approach, and the therapeutic relationship is set in a foundation of trust and mutual respect.

I've extensively trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I've studied and worked in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, in addition to Australia.

I love learning about behaviour modification, doesn't matter whether it is about humans or animals. I am a nationally accredited dog trainer (NDTF) and have a second business called Paws In Life Coaching (https://www.facebook.com/PawsInLife/ or www.pawsinlife.com.au), which helps dog owners use their own dog as a tool to a healthier lifestyle and to a more fulfilled, happy life.
